Ebonyi Buys 200 Computers For E-library

Mr Dan Ibiam, the Director, Ebonyi Library Board, on Friday in Abakaliki said the State Government had concluded plans to inaugurate the multi-million naira state e-library project.

Ibiam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abakaliki that no fewer than 200 set of computers had been procured by the state library board.

“Government had acquired no fewer than 200 sets of computers to pioneer the commencement of the e-library. It is a gigantic project and we have room for expansion,’’ he said.

According to him, the e-library will fill in the gap created by the analogue system as it will make information readily available to readers and researchers.

He explained that the need to stay ahead of current developments in both local and international arena had necessitated the establishment of the e-library.

“The e-library will make it easier and faster to source information and also make the people remain abreast of current events.’’

The director said that the analogue system made provision for books and journals only, noting that the e-library provided an online reading and down loading of book materials.

“With the e-library, books and academic journals can be sourced online and down-loaded by the reader.

“The e-library will also revolutionise the way we carry out researches and other academic work.’’

Ibiam said that the e-library would enhance the development of education in the state as well as promote the culture of reading and research.

He said the board had trained its workers because “we are determined to provide efficient service to users of our e-library when it is opened to the public.

“To this end, we had retrained our staff through a capacity building workshop to enable them provide effective service to our clients.

“You cannot give what you do not have, that is why we had decided to train our staff on ICT so that they can provide guide to users of the e-library.’’
