80-Yr-Old Woman, 5 Children Hospitalised After Drinking Salty Water

Six persons have been hospitalized after bathing with and drinking salt water to avert the dreaded Ebola virus disease, Makurdi, Benue.

Despite rumours about salt water solution to Ebola virus infection were debunked by the Nigerian Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, and Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu, some Nigerians mistakenly continue to cure themselves with this controversial method.

Leadership reports about an octogenarian woman and five children taken to one of Makurdi hospitals after all of them drank salt water and suffered severe vomiting and diarrhea. The doctors believe that the residents of Logo 1 area of Makurdi were affected by over-consumption of the salt.

There was chaos in Makurdi and other communities of the state, weekend, when all residents woke up in the midnight to bathe with and drink the salt water, claiming that it could prevent them from contracting Ebola virus.

The World Health Organization says the death toll from the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has risen to 932. The new figures come Wednesday as authorities in Nigeria confirmed the death of a nurse of Ebola. Saudi Arabia also announced one death of a person with Ebola-like symptoms.
