According to the statement signed by the Interim National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Lagos on June 9, 2014, Monday, the Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, Olisa Metuh, other PDP officials should be prosecuted for destabilizing situation in Kano.
The opposition party noted that the wave of violence in Kano was caused by PDP’s decision to congratulate a contender who had not even been appointed for the throne. The controversial statement, despite being called off later, was described as “premeditated and calibrated to incite violence.”
The APC queried why the PDP failed to wait for several hours to get an official confirmation and acted without getting in touch with the selecting body. It also failed to understand what was so urgent about greeting the wrong person, and who did benefit from misleading the media, and subsequently, the people.
The main opposition force of Nigeria explained that the fire of violence started when supporters of a son of the late Emir, Ado Bayero, felt deceived and shortchanged. So the protests and violence were a natural reaction.
According to APC the Attorney-General of Kano State should not wait for explanations of Olisa Metuh, other PDP members, but to immediately initiate criminal proceedings for incitement.
It would be added that security situation in Kano has improved, but still remains unstable. For instance the military banned private jets from landing at Kano International Airport due to “security reasons”, as announced by the DHQ on June 9, 2014, Monday.
