Nobody Can Islamise Nigeria, Says Sultan Of Sokoto

Sa’ad Abubakar, who is the head of Nigeria’s Muslim community, President-General, Jaamatu Nasril Islam (JNI) and  Sultan of Sokoto, on Sunday claimed that "nobody can islamise Nigeria".

Delivering his speech at the Golden Jubilee lecture of the JNI in Kaduna, Abubakar said:

"If Allah wanted he would have made everybody Muslims, so also with Christianity. God would have made everybody Christian if He wanted."

Sultan decried Boko Haram insurgency raging in the North-East of the country.

According to his words, activities of the terrorists should not be seen as an attempt by Muslims to persecute Christians or turn Nigeria into an Islamic country.

He urged Christians, Muslims and adherents of other religions to tackle the current security challenges together.

Meanwhile Vice President Namadi Sambo commended JNI programmes and promised further support from the present administration.
