Ooni Of Ife's Second-In-Command Dies At 83

The Obalufe of Iremo-Ife, Oba Samuel Omisakin, the traditional prime minister of Ile-Ife and second in command to the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, is dead.

According to Daily Independent, Omisakin who is the leader of Ife kingmakers passed on in the early hours of Thursday, October 15.

It was gathered that the late Obalufe of Iremo-Ife was on his sick bed when the late Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II passed on at a London Hospital.

Obalufe’s death is said to have a negative effect on the selection of the next Ooni of Ife.

Arrangements are being made by the relations for mourning and burial preparations before the conclusion of selection process of new Ooni.

According to a source, his demise might not have any implication on the selection process of the next Ooni, adding that the next in the rank, Lowa of Ife, Oba Joseph Ijaodola would likely step in to take charge of functions of Obalufe who is said to make official pronouncement of the new Ooni of Ife.

The late Oba Samuel Omisakin ascended the throne on June 1, 1988. He is from Orunto Obalufe Family compound Iremo Quarters Ile-Ife, Osun state.

As the Obalufe his role includes carrying out traditional function as well as judicial duties. He acts on behalf of the Ooni of Ife in some functions.
