New Security Chief said the Boko Haram insurgency will end before elections

The newly decorated Chief of Defence Staff, Marshal Alex Sabundu Badeh assured that the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east will be brought to an end before the 2015 general elections. He said an alternative strategy to combat the sect will be deployed to combat the sect.

He gave the assurance at the official swearing-in ceremony of the new Service Chiefs by President Goodluck Jonathan which held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

At the event, the President said the Federal Government would not sleep "until the war against terror is won in the north east and the people of Borno can sleep."

Badeh said that the terror situation in Nigeria was not new, but expressed optimism that the new strategies, which would be brought to the table, would enable the new set of Service Chiefs to dislodge the insurgents before the general elections.

Today he also denied saying on January 20 that the security situation in the north-east would be brought to a halt by April. Badeh said his words were misinterpreted.
