No Plan To Impeach Amaechi--Anti-Amaechi Lawmaker

The lawmaker representing Ogu/Bolo constituency in Rivers State House of Assembly, Evans Bipi, said in Port Harcourt that there is no plan to impeach governor Chibuike Amaechi.

Speaking with Daily Trust correspondents, the lawmaker denied media reports that the recent visit of Mrs. Jonathan was to perfect plans to commence the impeachment of the governor pointing out that Mrs Jonathan was in the State on a private visit.

Some section of the media had reported that the visit of the First Lady, Dame Patient Good luck Jonathan, to the state was to intensify the impeachment process on the governor.

What is more, the PDP lawmakers in the Assembly have been constantly accused of planning the removal of the governor.

According to Bipi, he has no reason to plan for the impeachment of the governor and the only thing he needs from Amaechi is to for him to recognize Bipi as the duly elected speaker of the House.

"If he recognizes that, then I will also recognize him as my governor, and both of us can continue to work together to move the state to its enviable heights," he said.

Bipi explained that the First Lady has the right to visit her home state as every other person, adding that it is wrong for anybody to associate her with impeachment of the governor when in reality there is nothing like that.

The lawmaker was of the view that when every security matter is settled and the pro-Amaechi lawmakers are ready to abide by the rule of the House, the House would commence sitting. He expressed worry that the same group that went to the speaker of House of Representatives, Hon Waziri Aminu Tambuwal, for protection could now serve the Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph mbu, an order not to open the complex for normal legislative process.
