Ooni Of Ife Died In London

One of Nigeria's prominent ruler, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade is dead, sources have told Legit.ng.

Sources close to the late ruler told Legit.ng that the king died in a London hospital after he was rushed to the UK last week.

The source further said the first Nigerian who learnt about the death of Ooni is the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa'ad, before other prominent Yoruba kings.

Ife indigenes and Osun state government officials contacted by Punch yesterday kept sealed lips about the king's death but some traditional rulers in the state confirmed that the king is indeed dead.

Chief Funmilola Olorunnisola, spokesperson for the Ooni was evasive, he said: “I don’t have anything to tell you immediately.”

The late ruler who was born 1 January 1930 passed on in the wee hours of Tuesday, July 28

He became the fiftieth traditional ruler in 1980, taking the regnal name Olubuse II.

One of the sons of the King, Adebite recently had his wedding introduction ceremony with TV presenter, Dolapo Oni.
