Man Forces Teenager To Marry Him, Locks Her Up In Lagos

A 30-year-old man Kelechi Ekeh has been accused of locking his wife Mercy Ekeh in a room inside their apartment for seven months in Egbe, Lagos state.

Mr Ekeh had reportedly forced her to marry him at the age of 17 and kept her in captivity, PM News reports.

Narrating what happened at the Eiigbo Customary Court, where she filed a suit for the dissolution of the marriage, Mercy, now 20, said her ordeal started in 2012 when she went to sit for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Examination.

According to her, Ekeh had accosted her along Liasu road in Egbe and cast a spell on her after he touched her. He commanded her to go to her parents’ house, bring her property and come to live with him.

After she went to his house her parents searched everywhere. They even reported her missing to the police.

Mercy said she was not allowed to see anybody or her parents during her captivity as her husband would lock her inside and provide a small bucket for her to ease herself inside the room, whenever he was going to work.

Her plight came to an end when one of the neighbours who observed what was happening told her mother where she was. Ekeh was arrested and Mercy regained her freedom.

Mercy begged the court to dissolve her marriage and compel Ekeh to take care of the baby, saying the incident had traumatized and ruined her life.

Addressing the court, Ekeh denied all the allegations, pleading with the court not to dissolve his marriage because he was in love with his wife.
