The president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, jets on a British Airways to London with controversial Diezani Alison-Madueke, Minister of Petroleum Resources today, May 22.
Sahara Reporters says sources claimed that Buhari was on a planned trip.
Several assistants and close allies of the president-elect, said they were surprised when they got to know of the trip because they were with him till 7.00pm last night briefly after he arrived from his hometown, Duara.
Another source inside Buhari’s family added that he was traveling to London for the weekend and is likely to return to Nigeria on Tuesday, in time for the inauguration ceremony.
Meanwhile, Alison-Madueke, who was billed to travel to the UK next week Tuesday, upon hearing that the president-elect was traveling to London, quickly called the airline to book her on the same flight with Buhari, so that she could have a chance to talk directly to him, a source disclosed.
The British Airways flight left Abuja this morning at 9:00am Nigerian time.
There were controversies over Buhari's previous trip to London after the postponement of the general elections.
Buhari said he went to rest because of intense presidential campaign. He also visited key members of the Royal Institute of International Affair, Chatham House.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party, which featured his major opponent in the elections, claimed that Buhari left Abuja to receive treatment in the UK hospital because of his age.
It would be recalled that Diezani's popularity dropped after Lamido Sanusi, the former governor of the central bank, blamed the NNPC for not being able to account for$20 billion oil money.
Despite the public outrage, Alison-Madueke declined to duly explain the situation.
