Okorocha Vows to End Traditional Leadership Tussle in Imo

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo has restated his resolve to end traditional leadership tussles in the various autonomous communities in the state.

Mr. Okorocha announced the plan in Owerri on Wednesday when he resolved the disputes in four communities in the state.

The communities include Okuku in Owerri West Local Government Area where Anthony Akunwaigwe became the traditional ruler nominee and Okirika Nwaeke in Ahiazu Mbaise Local Government Area where Cyril Okonkwo became the nominee.

At Naze Autonomous Community in Owerri North, Francis Ugorji was elected while Linus Nwaturuocha emerged as the nominee from Nguru Community in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.

The governor directed the people of Irette Autonomous Community in Owerri West Local Government Area, which has six contestants for the stool, to conduct election using the Option A4 to be monitored by government representatives.

He also asked the people of Mbaoma Community also in Owerri Local Government to organise election for the two candidates, Israel Mgbemere and Nelson Anyanwu, who are vying for the stool.

Mr. Okorocha said he would not allow the imposition of a traditional ruler in any community and urged the people to cooperate with the government.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Community Governance and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ugochi Nnanna-Okoro, noted that no community could move forward in an atmosphere of disunity.

She called on all to embrace peace and brotherliness for the growth of their communities.
