Fire Outbreak At Balogun Market, Lagos Island

Property worth millions of naira in the early hours of Monday, January 12 were destroyed as fire razed some shops at the popular Balogun Market, Lagos Island Daily Times reports.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the fire started at about 4.36am from an unknown source and has been raging despite efforts by the Fire service to put it under control.

"At 04:36 hours, there was a serious fire outbreak at Balogun market Lagos Island."

NEMA spokesman Ibrahim Fariloye said in a text message that efforts to put the fire under control is still on-going.

However, the cause of the fire outbreak and reports on casualties are yet to be known.
