A statement by the Information Officer of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Lateef Ositelu, said this on Thursday.

The violence which resulted in the destruction of properties worth millions of naira was ignited by a fight between two Yoruba and Hausa youths over a prostitute two weeks ago in Ibeshe.

Ositelu said a cement manufacturing company, Dangote Cement Factory, located in the town, and represented at a truce meeting organised by the government, would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding with its host communities.

According to Ositelu, the Commissioner, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, is creating efficient communication between Yoruba and Hausa leaders through peace meetings to forestall future occurrence.

The statement read in part, “Oladipo, during a meeting with stakeholders in Abeokuta, added that the state government has already approved a 24-hour operation by members of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement as well as the immediate establishment of a unit of Federal Road Safety Corps at Ilaro to help control heavy traffic occasioned by the visits of heavy duty trucks in the area.

“A representative of Dangote Cement Factory, Mr. Joseph Alaba, thanked the state government for its quick intervention in the dispute.

“He added that the company was alive to its Corporate Social Responsibilities.”

Ositelu said the firm was “working to pay necessary compensations to owners of the lands acquired”.
