Seventeen-year-old Donald Denell Perry Jr. met his untimely death in a car crash in November 2020, a few months shy of his graduation from Saginaw High School.
Last Thursday, June 3, family and friends converged at his gravesite to honor the teen who never lived to see his graduation day.
A sad day in the family's life
Donald's young life came to an end when he and three friends were ejected out of a 2020 Dodge Charger they were driving in Buena Vista Township.
A sombre mood engulfed the mourners as they released balloons at the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
WNEM reported:
"It’s a bitter but sweet thing, I hate that he’s not able to be here," said Donald Perry Sr."
Speaking at the event, the late teen's mother LaTosha Perry revealed that his peers called him Mr. Perfect out of admiration because he was not only humble but also had a great smile all the time.
A bright future puffs off
The most emotional moment of the ceremony was when Donald Sr. accepted his son’s diploma on his behalf, donned in a black graduation gown.
Donald Perry Jr. had said before his demise:
"I thank Saginaw High School for allowing me to do that. It’s a privilege and an honor, and I really appreciate it."
According to the Perry family, their son's graduation ceremony was meant to be the start of his bright and promising future.
They added that the deceased had planned to join college and pursue a major course in electrical engineering and a minor in real estate. Donald was a member of Messiah Missionary Baptist Church and served as an usher.
