Flight Lt. Alfred Ayodeji Olufade was one of the officers onboard the ill-fated aircraft that crashed around the Kaduna international airport on Friday, May 21.

Olufade, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru and nine other military officers all lost their lives.

The COAS was said to be on his way to Kaduna to attend the passing-out parade of army recruits scheduled for Saturday, May 22, when the unfortunate incident happened.

Friends and sympathisers have expressed sadness over the demise of Olufade, who got married about three months ago.

Hours after the confirmation of his death, pictures and videos from his wedding in February began to circulate on social media.

One of his friends said he was heartbroken over the news. According to him, the deceased often teased him to get out of bachelorhood. He also shared their conversation on Twitter.

On his part, a former Nigerian senator, Dino Melaye, described Olufade' death as a great loss to Okun nation, Ijumu people and Ayere community in Kogi state.

Halimah with the Twitter handle @Gaabdo_ shared a video from Olufade's wedding in February. She wrote in the caption:

"3 months ago we were all here rejoicing. Today we mourn. You'll live on forever in our hearts Flt Lt AA Olufade. Our own Ayo."

Emeka with the handle @EmekaWilfred commented:

"We're all saddened by his death. Everyone affiliated with Kuje seminary will surely miss him. May the Almighty grant you eternal rest."

Burial arrangements

The Nigerian Army had earlier announced that the burial proceedings for the late COAS and six other senior staff will commence on Saturday, May 22, in Abuja.

Legit.ng reported that Mohammed Yerima, the army spokesman, disclosed that the event would commence by 10 a.m. at the National Mosque and National Christian Centre.

The interment will also hold on the same day at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja at 1 p.m.
