No Money was Printed to Bridge March Allocation, NEC counters Obaseki's Claim

- NEC has dismissed a claim that the federal government printed the sum of N60 billion back in March

- The council insists that there is no truth whatsoever in the claim wrongly insinuated in some quarters

- Governor Obaseki had claimed that N60bn was printed to augment what the federal allocation shared

The National Economic Council (NEC) on Thursday, April 22, reacted to allegations made by the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaski that N60 billion was printed to augment March allocation to states.

The council in a virtual meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa took a position having critically reviewed the matter.

A statement by Laolu Akande, the vice president's spokesman made available to Legit.ng affirmed that neither N60 billion nor any amount was not printed to bridge the allocation.

It was gathered that the council expressed satisfaction with clarifications made by the chairman, Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF), Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, minister of finance, budget, and national planning, Zainab Ahmed, and the CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Both the minister and CBN governor stated that the allegation of the printing of money to augment allocation was outrightly false.

The NGF also supported the conclusion and NEC affirmed same as the highest constitutional body tasked with economic affairs in the country

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the federal government denied it printed N60 billion to augment March allocation to states as alleged by the governor of Edo state.

The government described the allegation by the governor as untrue and sad. The minister of finance, budget and national planning, debunked the claim while answering questions from State House correspondents on Wednesday, April 14.

Ahmed said what the federal government distributed was the revenue generated, adding that the distribution of revenue is public information.

Similarly, the claim that Nigeria printed N60 billion last month to cushion its financial trouble has been denied by the CBN.

Osita Nwanisobi, the spokesperson of CBN, on Sunday, April 11, said he was not aware of any money printed by the government. He disclosed this while speaking to journalists.
