BREAKING: Chaos, Fear as Gas Explosion Rocks Famous Lagos Community

A gas explosion that rocked the Amuwo-Odofin local government area of Lagos state on Tuesday, April 13, has left many persons injured.

Punch reports that the incident took place at Iyasoko Street Agboju, Amuwo-Odofin by 7pm.

The tragedy, also reported by The Nation, was confirmed by the Nosa Okunbor, the public relations officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

Okunbor revealed:

“Yes, it is true. Our team members are on their way. They are delayed by traffic. I cannot determine the magnitude of the incident at present.”

Meanwhile, it was an emotional day in Delta on Saturday, January 23 as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa visited family members of the deceased after a gas explosion in the Agbor area of the state killed 4 people, while 11 people were hospitalised on Friday, January 22.

The governor who also visited the scene of the incident and the hospital where the injured were receiving treatment, confirmed that four persons died and no fewer than 11 admitted to the hospital with various degrees of burns.

Touching photos of the governor's visit were shared on his official social media pages.

He described the fire disaster as an unfortunate incident and announced that the state government would take responsibility for the bill to give the victims medical treatment.

He said that the surviving patients were referred to a specialised centre for the treatment of burns at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) for further treatment because of the high degree of burns they sustained.

His words: “It was an unfortunate fire incident involving a gas station where the tanker was trying to discharge gas. We have visited the place and the victims and we have seen the extent of damage caused by the inferno. We lost four persons, three children and a woman.
