Delta State Government Completes Traditional Rulers Building

- A secretariat is being built for traditional rulers in Delta state

- The Delta state government is embarking on the project which is expected to be completed before the end of 2021

- Government officials say the secretariat was a deliberate effort to provide the royal fathers a meeting point to share ideas

Delta state government on Wednesday, March 17 said the Traditional Rulers' Council building in Asaba had been completed and was ready for inauguration. 

The commissioner for housing, Chief Festus Ochonogor, made this known while conducting newsmen round some projects in Asaba, the state capital.

Ochonogor, who was in company with his information counterpart, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, did not, however, reveal the date the project would be inaugurated but said it would be soon.

He said the gigantic traditional rulers' council secretariat was a deliberate effort to provide the royal fathers a world-class meeting point to contribute to advancing a stronger Delta vision and also build a bridge of peace in their domains.

According to a statement sent to Legit.ng by the Delta state government on Wednesday, March 17, the commissioner called on contractors handling projects in the state to redouble efforts to meet deadlines. 

He pledged to sustain visits to project sites and lauded the contractors for the pace and quality of jobs done so far. 

His words:

“The traditional rulers' council secretariat project was started by Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and he has completed it. He decided to build a secretariat for traditional rulers in order to strengthen governance infrastructure. 
“Traditional rulers are part of the government as they help us at the community level. 
“When they are here for discussions, they will be comfortable and we have council chambers, conference halls, library, offices, art gallery, reception, bedrooms, kitchen, and 18 rooms apartment for the directorate of chieftaincy affairs.”

On his part, commissioner for information, Aniagwu, said the administration of Governor Okowa would continue to embark on landmark projects until May 29, 2023, and solicited the support of all in building a Stronger Delta. 

Aniagwu said that the three projects were dear to the government and would be completed for the good of all, and expressed the government's readiness to providing people-oriented projects to fast-track development. 

On the traditional rulers' council secretariat, the commissioner said the edifice was to provide offices for the traditional rulers and staff of the directorate of chieftaincy affairs in addition to the sustenance of cordial relationship between it and royal fathers.

Recall that Bayelsa state governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Tuesday, March 2 inaugurated two roads and school projects constructed by Governor Okowa in the Warri area of Delta state.

A statement sent to Legit.ng by the Delta state government noted that the projects are in Warri South local government area, Uvwie local government area, and Ighogbadu Secondary School, in the commercial town of Warri.

Speaking at the event, Governor Diri lauded Okowa for linking communities in oil-rich Warri with motorable roads and providing functional schools.

In a related development, the Delta state government, on Friday, January 22 approved the widening and rehabilitation of the 2.1 kilometres Orhunwhorun road in Udu local government area of the state at a total cost of N398.2 million.

The decision was taken at the first state executive council meeting for the year 2021 which was presided by Governor Okowa.
