- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors have urged President Buhari to come to their aid financially
- The leader of these governors' forum, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, said the PDP states had financial burdens only FG can help with
- The governors are hopeful that the Nigerian leader will reconsider some of his decisions and provide more relief for citizens
Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari for financial assistance for their respective states.
Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDPGF), Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, who addressed newsmen after the meeting ended, said the move became necessary to save their states.
Their states, Tambuwal noted, required huge financial commitments that only the federal government can provide.
"On the general economic well-being of the country, we are appealing to the President to re-consider certain measures, and we are appealing for more relief to Nigerians and support for state governments in the discharge of their mandate, by making resources available to the states, so that we can execute our mandate and ensure good governance in our respective states throughout the country.”
Former senate president, Bukola Saraki hinted at the agenda of the governors' meeting which was held between the governors and his reconciliation committee through a brief announcement on his Twitter account.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng recently compiled lists of states that depend on monthly federal allocation for survival and states that do not depend much on federal government allocation because of their high internally generated revenue.
There is also a list of states that get the highest allocation from the federation account.
