Inter Milan extend their lead on top of the Serie A standings following their sensational 3-0 win over eternal rivals AC Milan on Sunday, February 21.

Two goals by Lautaro Martenez as well as a sensational strike from impressive Romelu Lukaku were enough to hand the visitors all three points.

The game had all the pre-match razzmatazz which falls back to their earlier clash in the Coppa Italia which Inter won 2-1.

Recall that opposing strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku had a heated argument during that encounter which set the stage for Sunday's showdown.

But it was Inter that broke the deadlock in the 5th minute through Lautato Martinez following a sensational header to put his side ahead early in the game.

Romelu Lukaku had received the ball and turned on the afterburners, glided past Hernandez on the left before finding Martinez who was free in the middle.

Romagnoli cut out the Belgian's initial pass, but the ball came back out to Lukaku. The Belgian then took a touch and curled in a peach of a cross for Martinez who headed home unmarked.

AC Milan fought so hard to restore parity in the first half but Inter's defence was resolute to all the attacks.

In in the 57th minute, it was 2-0 in favour of the visitors who continued to ask the questions, playing textbook attacking football before grabbing the priceless double lead.

Lukaku started the attack and waited in the centre-half to feed Hakimi who found Eriksen, and then Perisic on the other flank.

The Croatian spotted Martinez in the box and it was way too easy for him to tap into an empty net from his cut-back.

A magical play saw Romelu Lukaku get on the scoresheet deservedly in the 66th minute following a magical, counter-attack from Inter.

He gathered the ball inside the centre-circle, surged through the middle and blasted past Donnarumma at the near post. All by himself; and that was how it ended AC Milan 0-3 Inter Milan.

The victory extends Inter's lead on top of the Serie A standings with having garnered 53 points from 23 matches - four points ahead of Milan.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that in Spain, Barcelona would have themselves to blame on after they allowed 28-year-old midfielder Alex Fernandez to score the equalizer at the death in their 1-1 draw against Cadiz at Camp Nou.

Koeman's men started the match impressively with the likes of Lionel Messi, De Jong and Dembele firing in all cylinders for the Catalans, but they were unable to claim all three points.
