Two first-half goals from Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos were all Real Madrid needed to outscore Valencia at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

The victory propelled Los Blancos to the second position on the log with three points better than bitter rivals Barcelona who have played one game less.

Coach Zinedine Zidane's men got the game off to an impressive start after finding the back of the net in the 12th minute.

The Galacticos launched a counter-attacking move on their guests who tried breaking their defence moments before the goal.

Three minutes before half-time, the home team doubled their lead with another superb goal courtesy of Kroos.

Lucas Vazquez laid down a stunning pass for the German midfielder who then wasted no time before sending the ball straight into the net.

Ferland Mendy also got his name on the scores sheet but the VAR chopped off his goal for offside having already stayed at an advantageous position during the build-up to his cancelled goal.

In the end, the two first goals were enough for the home team to claim maximum points after the regulation period as they cut Atletico Madrid's lead at the summit of the table to five points.
