Super Eagles legend who won Nations Cup completes move to top European side

Few weeks after his departure at Danish side Sonderjyske, Super Eagles legend Ogenyi Onazi has completed a move to Lithuanian champions Zalgiris where he is expected to revive his football career.

Announcing the arrival of Ogenyi Onazi, Zalgiris explained officially that they are happy to have the Super Eagles midfielder in their squad.

The club added that Ogenyi Onazi is expected to help them this season to land more titles considering his experiences with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

''Delighted to welcome former Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi to Vilnius, capital of Lithuania as he brings formidable international experience at club level and having earned over 50 caps with the Super Eagles whom he helped to win the African Nations Cup.''

Onazi began playing football in the streets of Jos in 1998 and his football skills and abilities drew a lot of attention to him which afforded him the opportunity to play in some academies in the city.

His footballing abilities came to prominence when he moved to the city of Lagos to play for My People.

Before moving to Europe, Ogenyi Onazi played for El-Kanemi Warriors playing 35 games with seven goals from where he joined Lazio in 2012.

Since 2012 that Onazi has been playing for Super Eagles, he has played 52 games and has managed to score one goal.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Super Eagles of Nigeria who are three-time African champions have dropped one spot in the latest global FIFA rankings released by the world football governing body on Thursday, February 18.

Gernot Rohr and his men who failed to record a single win last year are now rated as the 36th best footballing nation in the world and are also fifth in Africa.

Despite finishing second in the last African Cup of Nations in Egypt, Senegal are rated as the best footballing nation in Africa and they are being followed by Tunisia.
