Female student who planned to shoot her teacher is caught with gun in school

- Security formers have prevented a crime from taking place at a school in Cross River state

- The crime was being allegedly planned by a student who was rebelling over disciplinary action

- Security authorities are already investigating the incident

A female student who took a locally made pistol to school with an alleged plan to shoot one of her teachers has been arrested.

The Nation reported that the incident occurred at a government-owned secondary school, in Ikot Ewa in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River state on Thursday, February 18.

The publication stated that the intervention of the military prevented the student from carrying out her sinister plans.

A source who spoke anonymously said the unnamed student was angry with the teacher for disciplining her.

The source said:

“On certain day, she was asked by a teacher to go cut her hair because she had dyed the hair during the festive period (December) and returned to school with the coloured hair.

“The teacher after several warnings, also confiscated her sandals so that after cutting the hair she would pick them up.
“Having cut the hair, she came to show the teacher and then get her sandals back but her attitude was suspicious and she started becoming rude and some other teachers tried to calm her down and the nearby military men were called into the school and she directed to see the principal.''

The military men were said to have searched her bag and discovered the locally made pistol.

A spokesperson for the army, Captain Everest Ochinta confirmed the incident.

He said the girl will be handed over to the appropriate agency for further findings and prosecution.

However, the principal of the school, Inyang Inyang, declined comment on the matter saying he was not authorised to speak to the press.

Meanwhile, there was panic in Osun state after hoodlums armed with weapons invaded the lfeoluwa Co-Educational Grammar School in Osogbo.

The Nation reported that the incident which occurred on Tuesday morning, February 16, forced students and teachers of the institution to scamper for safety.

An eyewitness who spoke anonymously said the hoodlums suspected to be cultists were armed with cutlasses and other weapons.
