Big blow to APC in Edo state as two lawmakers resign membership, defect to PDP

- The Peoples Democratic Party in Edo state has just added two new important members to their ranks

- This development came as a big blow to the All Progressives Congress who was the party of the people before they defected

- The new members are members of the Edo state house of assembly

Even though election year is still far, more people are abandoning the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This time, two members in the Edo House of Assembly have resigned from the party and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The two lawmakers are the former Deputy Speaker of the house and member representing Akoko-Edo 1, Mr. Yekini Idaiye and the member representing Orhionmwon East Constituency, Mr. Nosayaba Okunbor.

One of the lawmakers, Yekini Idaiye reads said he took the decision t leave the ruling party because of internal crisis in the party from his ward to the local government level.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that in what can be described as a death blow, many top members of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) have dumped the party.

The people that defected are seven in number and are also members of the Ogun House of Assembly.

Specifically, they dumped the APM for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Legit.ng reports that the lawmakers announced their defection in separate letters read by the speaker, Olakunle Oluomo (APC – Ifo1) during a plenary in Abeokuta.

Legit.ng also reported that Dr Tope Aluko, a chieftain of the PDP in Ekiti state decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aluko parted ways with the party on Monday, January 25, saying he is ready to work for Governor Kayode Fayemi who he disclosed has "favoured Iyin Ekiti" where he hails from.

A former secretary of Ekiti PDP, Aluko is a known loyalist of the former governor Ayodele Fayose.

This comes as Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state said he is not ready to leave his party, the PDP and run into a "problem."
