Christian Chukwu: Nigerian football legend blasts those wishing him death

- Christian Chukwu has debunked rumours of his death

- The Nigerian legend was said to have passed on shortly after clocking 70 earlier this year

- The former AFCON winner says he is healthy as against the unfounded news that filtered through the media over the weekend

Nigerian football legend Christian Chukwu is very upset with those peddling rumours about his death across social media.

The former Super Eagles captain recently celebrated his 70th birthday where he highlighted that he will be remembered for his contribution to the growth of the game in the country.

He has however labelled the information as fake and unfounded saying he is very much alive and healthy. He told The Guardian Newspaper after learning about the rumour:

"Why will somebody just sit in his house and wish me dead? I’m alive, and I don’t know where those people got their information. Those spreading the rumour of my death will die before me.”
"I will be the one to bury such a person. Do I sound like someone who is dying? I am very upset with those behind this wicked rumour.
"Death is not something you wish your fellow human beings. Many Nigerians have my telephone number, and I answer any call that comes in.
"What will it take such a person to put a call across to me, or any member of my family just to verify the story before making it public? I’m sure it was a deliberate act, and as I said, anybody behind this rumour will die before me."

Chukwu was the captain of the Eagles team that won the first Africa Cup of Nations title in 1980 and went ahead to manage the senior national team after his playing career.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Austin Okocha has finally given his version of his story regarding the failed business venture with Friday Nwankwo-Kujah also known as Soccer Ambassador.

Nwankwo-Kujah had accused the former Super Eagles captain and his wife, Nkechi of illegally taking over a Bureau de change business which he claims they jointly owned.

However, Okocha has given his own side of the story claiming he funded the business with thousands of dollars and pulled out when it was not making a profit as expected.
