- Nigeria's two major parties, APC and PDP, are trading words over the performance of the Buhari administration
- The PDP's critique of the Buhari administration angered the ruling party, making it to lambast the opposition party in a fresh statement released on Tuesday, January 5
- According to APC, PDP having allegedly wasted Nigeria's resources while in power lacks the moral authority to criticise the Buhari government
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lambasted the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) for criticising the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The ruling party in a statement released on Tuesday, January, and sighted by Legit.ng said the lead opposition party lacks the moral authority to criticise the Buhari-led government.
John Udoedehe, the national caretaker committee secretary of the APC, highlighted the PDP's alleged misdeeds when it was the country's ruling party between 1999 and 2015.
Udoedehe said the PDP should keep quiet and bury its head in shame instead of reminding Nigerians of its "ignominious era".
“Where lies the moral authority of PDP to even contemplate comparing themselves to APC after its wasteful years in governance.
“Instead of burying its heads in shame, and allow sleeping dogs lie, its rantings keep reminding us of the ignominious era where: crude oil was sold at an average of $100 per barrel for a consecutive period of 4 years, which gave an excess of at least $30 per barrel above the budget benchmark and MTEF, and raking in surplus revenues – windfall if you like – for the country; yet what did Nigeria and Nigerians have to show for that period. Nothing at all.”
The APC chieftain also accused the PDP of several corrupt practices, including the alleged missing funds in the country’s Central Bank, the mismanagement of the funds earmarked to fight the Boko Haram insurgents, among others.
The APC scribe added:
"PDP wasted billions of dollars on marabouts, clergies and traditional rulers to purchase clout and support for its ill-fated political aspirations."
Udoedehe said despite the oil boom witnessed during the PDP era, the PDP government owed public servants salaries.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the PDP said President Buhari's New Year speech was "a script full of lame excuses and empty promises that addressed nothing."
The PDP also knocked President Buhari's speech for allegedly not giving many details about the rescue of the economy which is currently in a recession.
It also attacked the presidency over the administration's alleged inability to lay out its plans on how to tackle rising insecurity.
