- Ogenyi is, again, a free agent having parted ways with Danish outfit SønderjyskE
- It was gathered that the player struggled to break into the first team and his contract terminated
- Sporting director of the club Jørgen Haysen thanked the Nigerian for his professionalism
Latest reports from Denmark have it that the contract of Nigerian star Ogenyi Onazi has been terminated at Superliga club SønderjyskE, with six months left on it.
Complete Sports are reporting that Onazi who joined the club in October 2020 has left the club via mutual agreement.
The 28-year-old completed a one-year-signing late last year with an option to extend the deal for further two years.
It was gathered that the player agreed to part ways with the club having struggled to break into the first team as he made just two Danish top-flight appearances.
The club’s sporting director, Hans Jørgen Haysen, thanked Onazi for his professionalism during his time at the club.
He said to the club's website:
“There is not a finger to put on Onazi’s efforts in SønderjyskE. He has been a professional to the tips of his toes and he has fitted in well with the group with his dedication and he has also scooped out his experience to the young players on the team.
“He came with a backlog from an injury, but he has been in almost all training sessions with us, and he played regularly in the Sydbank Cup and a few games in the Super League.
"However, it did not turn out quite as he and we had hoped, and he himself has expressed that he might fit better into another league than the Superliga, and he now has the opportunity to try it out.
“We thank him for his efforts in the light blue jersey and wish him all the best for the future.”
Recall that Legit.ng had reported in July 2020 that Onazi left Turkish Denizlispor, with a game left to play to the end of the season.
The Super Eagles midfielder joined the club during the January transfer window after enduring several injury problems with Trabzonspor.
He played just nine games for the Super Lig side since his January move, but the former Lazio star got injured during Denizlispor's league loss to his former club Trabzonspor which has affected him.
He is now unattached to a club and will be looking for a new team at the end of the current campaign.
