Amid calls by prominent Nigerians for the sacking of the service chiefs over the gruesome murder of some farmers in Borno state, a group, the Good Governance Promoters (GGP) has risen in defense of President Muhammadu Buhari and Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Buratai.

Legit.ng's regional reporter in Kaduna, Nasir Dambatta, reports that the group said that the president and the Army chief have been doing their best in dealing with insurgency in the northeast.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Abubakar Umar in Abuja, and seen by Legit.ng, the group took exception to the latest media campaign against the president and what it described as "an unjustified clamour" for the removal of Lt-Gen Buratai coming on the heels of the tragedy that befell some 43 farmers in Borno state.

The group noted that it was shocked to discover that "among those hauling insults at the president and Buratai are clerics, who are supposed to be praying for this nation and its leaders, including the service chiefs."

The GGP wondered why Buratai's attackers waited until after Borno incident to start complaining, rather than commend the Army chief for liberating many communities in Borno state.

The statement also queried:

"Those who are hauling accusations and insults at Buratai, where were they when his troops liberated many local governments and ensure resettlement of some displaced persons? Are they saying we should close our eyes to the achievement of Buratai and his team because God brought forth the latest tragedy?"

It was reported that Okorocha made the call on Wednesday, December 2, when he paid a condolence visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule in Lafia, Nasarawa state, over the murder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) state chairman, Phillip Shekwo.
