- Shakhtar Donetsk vs Real Madrid ended in a 2-0 win in favour of the Ukrainian side
- Goals from Dentinho and Manor Solomon condemned Real to a comprehensive defeat
- The defeat was Real's second in the hands of Shakhtar within just weeks, with the reverse tie between the two sides finishing 3-2
Minnows Shakhtar Donetsk have completed a double on Real Madrid after stunning the Spanish giants 2-0 in their reverse Champions League tie played in Kiev on Tuesday evening, December 1.
Madrid were out in search of a big win away at Ukraine to increase their chances of qualifying for the round of 16 of the European competition.
However, the hosts proved too stubborn to break as they frustrated the 13-time Champions League winners at Stadion NSK Olimpiskiy.
This was despite the Zinedine Zidane-tutored side dominating the opening exchanges of the tie that saw them squander a number of chances.
Madrid's best chance of the half came in the 29th minute through Marco Asensio who pulled the trigger in a crowded box from a tight angle only to have his effort collected by the keeper.
Karim Benzema also went close before the break after he was set up by Asensio but sent his volley flying into the stands.
Madrid were later punished for their missed chances, with Dentinho, who replaced Moraes in the first half breaking the deadlock in the 57th minute, with the substitute tapping into the net in the right-hand corner.
Manor Solomon doubled the advantage in the 82nd minute, capitalising on Dentinho's well placed pass following a brilliant counterattack.
Despite Madrid's advances, Shakhtar managed to hold on to claim a vital win that now have them well in line to qualify for the knockout round.
The defeat means Real now sit third on the charts with seven points with a match left to play.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Real Madrid woes were compounded after superstar Eden Hazard limped off in their 2-1 defeat to Deportivo Alaves at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this weekend.
The Belgian only lasted 28 minutes after which he was replaced by Rodrygo but the extent of his setback has not been communicated to the media.
This will definitely upset Zinedine Zidane's plans as their Spanish League title defence is already shaky as they sit fourth on the table with six points behind current table-toppers Real Sociedad.
