Wike donates N20m each to families of soldiers, policemen killed by IPOB

- Governor Wike has promised to donate N20 million each to the families of policemen and soldiers recently killed in Rivers

- The gallant security officers were reportedly killed in Oyigbo local government area of the state by IPOB members

- The Rivers state governor vowed to ensure that IPOB no longer exists in the south-south state

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has announced the donation of N20 million each to families of soldiers and policemen killed recently by members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organisation of Biafra (IPOB).

According to Nigerian Tribune, five soldiers and three policemen were killed on Wednesday, October 21, in Oyigbo local area of the state.

The area command, Oyigbo and Afam police stations were also burnt down when members of the proscribed group launched an attack in the area amid the #EndSARS protest.

During his condolence visit to the state police headquarters where some of the families of the soldiers and policemen were invited to in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike promised to provide the sum of N20 million compensation to each of the families.

This was disclosed in a statement released by Kelvin Ebiri, Governor Wike's media aide, on Wednesday, October 28.

Governor Wike also said the state government would rebuild the police stations that were set ablaze.

The Rivers state governor also vowed to ensure that the terrorist organisation, IPOB, no longer exists in Rivers state.

He added that the state government will support the police to make sure that all IPOB members behind the atrocities are apprehended to face the full wrath of the law.

Governor Wike had earlier declared that the IPOB had been outlawed in the state. The Rivers state governor made this known in a state-wide broadcast on Friday, October 23, in Port Harcourt.

The governor blamed the proscribed group for the recent attacks on some local government areas (LGAs), especially in Oyigbo LGA.

Also, Wike declared one Stanley Mgbere from Onne in Eleme LGA wanted. The governor consequently placed a bounty of N50 million on him.
