The Coalition Save Nigeria (CSN) has called on Nigerian youths to halt the #EndSARS protests currently ongoing across cities in Nigeria.

The protests, the coalition said has been hijacked by disgruntled politicians for personal or political gains which may be unknown to the protesting youths.

A statement signed by CSN's president, Raymond Ikoh, said, while a protest is the right of every Nigerian, there is need to apply wisdom and caution in seeking ways to make governance beneficial to all.

Ikoh stating that the protest has taken a violent turn said questions are now being raised about the original intent of those championing the movement.

Also, warning that hoodlums and political thugs have been mobilised to ensure that the country witnesses a crisis of phenomenal dimension, Ikoh said various groups are now willing to carry out their nefarious activities not minding whose ox is gored.

His words:

“We are also aware of scores of instances where innocent Nigerians on emergencies were trapped as a result of the protest, thereby resulting in deaths and near-death experiences. The case of a pregnant woman who died alongside her unborn child in Abuja calls for great concern from well-meaning Nigeria.”

He said some of these political jobbers only want to fulfil their overarching aim of setting the country on fire at the expense of the unassuming youths.

He said:

“We are also convinced that the EndSARS protests have been taken over by hoodlums and political thugs who have significantly been mobilized to ensure that the country witnesses a crisis of phenomenal dimension.

The group further urged teeming youths in the country not to allow themselves to be used by some vested interest to destroy their country.

He added that young people must wake up to this stark reality and turn down the overtures of these disgruntled interest aiming to grind the country to a halt.

“We must also be reminded that the peculiarities of time occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic that has had a wide-reaching economic and social impact globally does not put Nigeria in good stead to cope with any form of economic or social disruption of the efforts of the government towards mitigating the effect of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.”

He said the CSN is alarmed at the dangerous dimension the #EndSARS protest has assumed and is therefore calling on the teeming youths to rise to the occasion and protect the country instead of destroying it.
