COVID-19: Lagos, Oyo top list as NCDC records more 212 cases

- Nigeria recorded 212 Coronavirus cases on Friday, October 16

- Lagos is still the epicentre of the virus in the country with 85 new infections

- The country now has 61,194 confirmed cases, 52,304 recoveries and 1,119 deaths as reported on the Twitter page of the NCDC on Friday

It seems that COVID-19 cases in Nigeria are beginning to rise again based on the latest report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The country, according to the NCDC, recorded 212 new cases spread across eight Nigerian states on Friday, October 16.

The national health agency on Friday announced on its Twitter page that Lagos is still the epicentre of the global pandemic in the country with 85 new infections.

Other states behind Lagos and their respective numbers of new infections are Oyo-72, the Federal Capital Territory-21, Ogun-11, Plateau-11, Katsina-6, Kaduna-5 and Osun-1

So far, the country has 61,194 confirmed cases, 52,304 recoveries and 1,119 deaths in relation to the deadly disease.

Meanwhile, reports emerged that some states in Nigeria might witness a more devastating second wave of the coronavirus disease.

The NCDC has warned that the non-compliance to COVID-19 health guidelines could spike the second wave in Adamawa and other states in the country.

Fahad Mohammed, the technical adviser in the implementation of NCDC’s action plan gave the warning in Adamawa state.

He sounded the warning during the sensitisation of officials of the Nigerian police and other paramilitary agencies in Yola.

Mohammed said:

“There is serious concern, (though we don’t pray and God forbid) that there is likely to be even more devastating second wave of coronavirus in Adamawa and other states due to the non-compliance to COVID-19 health guidelines and people declining tests."
