- The state government said the candidate of ZLP Ajayi is planning to stage an attack on himself in the Owo hometown of Governor Akeredolu
- APC, however, said the plot was quickly abolished and the campaign to Owo canceled after relevant agencies were informed
Barely five days to the conduct of the Ondo governorship election, the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu have again engaged in verbal war.
The Nation reports that the Ondo state government on Monday, October 5, raised the alarm over an alleged plot by Ajayi to stage an attack on himself in the Owo hometown of Governor Akeredolu.
Legit.ng gathered that it said the plot was quickly abolished and the campaign to Owo canceled after relevant agencies were informed.
The commissioner for information and orientation, Donald Ojogo, who spoke at a briefing said that Agboola hatched to plan for it to be seen that it was carried out by supporters of APC as he visited Owo as part of his campaign tour.
Ojogo said the plot was a dangerous dimension to Nigeria’s democracy, adding that the motive was to create a crisis and play the ignoble role of an underdog and victim in order to attract public sympathy.
The commissioner said:
“Agboola arranged hoodlums to shoot at his convoy while at Ijebu Owo, the strong base of Akeredolu. It was orchestrated to coincide with the visit of the INEC and IGP to the state.
He stated the ZLP woman leader in Owo and many supporters were physically attacked since Sunday and their properties destroyed.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti state expressed the confidence that the APC would win the Ondo governorship election.
It was reported that Fayemi made the statement during a chat with journalists in Lagos state.
