Southwest PDP crisis: Rep member backs Governor Makinde as party leader

- A PDP member of House of Rep from Osun state, Wole Oke, has backed Governor Makinde as the party's leader in the southwest

Amid the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the southwest, a member of the House of Representatives, Wole Oke, has drummed support for Governor Seyi Makinde.

The Sun reports that the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade federal constituency of Osun state said Governor Makinde is the most suitable person to lead the PDP in the southwest zone.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 15, Oke explained that by convention, Makinde, being the only PDP governor in the zone is the natural leader of the opposition party.

He stated that no loyal and committed member of the PDP in the southwest should challenge the leadership of the Oyo state governor in the zone.

He urged all members of the party in the zone to support Makinde as their leader in the overall interest of the party in the zone ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Oke, while cautioning against any opposition to the leadership of Makinde in the southwest PDP, stated that "anybody grandstanding is on his own" as the party is supreme.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the crisis in the southwest chapter of the PDP took another dimension as former Ekiti governor, Ayo Fayose, warned Governor Makinde against tampering with the leadership structure in Ekiti.

Fayose said he was ready to fight anyone who wants to take over the structure of the party in the state from him.

Legit.ng gathers that the former governor states this on Wednesday, September 9, when he led national delegates of the PDP including the chairmen of the party in Osun, Ekiti, Lagos to Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Also on the PDP crisis, Fayose, and other chieftains recently shunned the party's flag off campaign in Akure, Ondo state.

The former governor and others were allegedly absent because they were not carried along in the runnings of the campaign by which is being headed Governor Makinde.

The Oyo state governor was said to have single-handedly constituted the campaign council, placing Fayose as member of the Mobilisation Sub-Committee.
