Covid-19: Only SS3 students to resume classes - Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti govts
- Lagos, Ogun and Ekiti governments have said that only student preparing to write WASSCE exams will resume schools

Lagos and Ogun state governments have said that only students seating for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will resume back classes in August.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 28, Lagos state commissioner of education, Folasade Adefisayo, and the special adviser to the Ogun state governor on education, Ronke Soyombo, made this known while giving update on school resumption in their respective states.
Legit.ng recalls that the federal government had on Monday, July 27, announced that secondary schools in the country would reopen on Tuesday, August 4.
The Ministry of Education, in a statement, said students would have two weeks to prepare for the WASSCE, the exit examination administered by the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC).
But in a contrary development, Lagos and Ogun governments said both state have not decided whether to reopen schools for students in the Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3).

Lagos and Ogun are among the most struck states by the coronavirus pandemic with both having 14,848 and 1326 cases respectively according to the report of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Ekiti state government has also followed the Lagos and Ogun way, saying there is no plan to reopen schools for students in other classes apart from SS3.
Foluso Daramola, Ekiti state commissioner for education, made this disclosure as Covid-19 crisis continues to take a dangerous swipe at all Nigerian states.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the House of Representatives urged the federal government to rescind its earlier decision on the cancellation of the 2020 WAEC exams due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
It would be recalled that the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, on Wednesday, July 6, announced that schools under the control of the federal government would not be reopened for the forthcoming WAEC exams.
