Police arrest kidnap kingpin, rescue 14 female victims in Katsina

- Police have arrested a kidnap kingpin terrorising Katsina state

- 14 female victims were also rescued by the security operatives

Muhammad Makama, the divisional police officer for Dutsinma in Katsina state, on the night of Friday, July 17, led ”Operation Puff Adder” to Kwantawama village in Dutsinma local government of the state, to arrest a notorious kidnap kingpin and rescue 14 female victims.

The nation reports that the spokesman of the Katsina state police command, SP Gambo Isah, in a statement issued said that the operation was spurred by a report that bandits numbering about 40, riding on motorcycles and armed with AK 47 rifles, attacked the village.

Legit.ng gathered that he noted that operatives of the state police command chased after the hoodlums into the fringes of the famous and dreaded Rugu forest and engaged them in a gun duel.

He said: ’’The team chased after the hoodlums into the fringes of Rugu forest and engaged them in a gun duel and succeeded and dislodged the bandits, rescued all the kidnapped fourteen women, 30 cows, 60 sheep and arrested one of the bandits later identified as Amadu Yusuf, aged 30yrs of Tudun village, Kurfi LGA of Katsina state. The investigation is ongoing.’’

“One suspected stolen motorcycle was also recovered which was abandoned by the bandits. Similarly on the same date at about 0:30hrs, bandits attacked Zamfarawa village, Batsari LGA, and rustled animals.

“DPO Batsari led Operation Puff Adder, chased and engaged the hoodlums into a gun duel. The bandits abandoned the animals and escaped into the forest. The team recovered all the rustled twelve cows and handed them over to their owners.

"The bandits, numbering about 40, were said to have ridden on motorcycles, armed with AK 47 rifles before attacking the village. During the incident, they kidnapped 14 women including children and rustled a large number of domestic animals.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that following the kidnapping of Joshua Dariye's father, the criminals demanded a ransom of N100m to free him.

It was reported that Pa Dariye who is the father of a former governor of Plateau state was recently abducted at his residence in Mushere, Bokkos local government area of the state.

The police said it has launched a manhunt for the victim’s abductors to free him. The incident was the second time in which the old man would be kidnapped. He was kidnapped in 2015.
