It was gathered that some top chieftains of the party are itching to abandon the party following what a source disclosed as “high-handedness of a governorship candidate.”

The source also explained some of them resigned owing to issues that border on the last primaries.

Despite the resignations, loyalists of ex-governor Emeka Ihedioha told Legit.ng that the PDP in the state is still strong.

Ihedioha recently suspended his visit to the state, following allegations made by the Imo state government that his visit will trigger crisis.

Ihedioha was scheduled to visit the state on Thursday, March 12 and the announcement of the proposed visit had caused a frenzy in the state.

Despite his ouster by the Supreme Court, Ihedioha, a former deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has a large following in the state and still a popular figure in the southeast state.

Meanwhile, kinsmen of Ihedioha on Wednesday, March 11 hailed the former governor of Imo for restoring confidence in governance during his short spell as the state's chief executive.

The people made their stance known through Olu Owerri, a socio-cultural group in Owerri Senatorial District.

Addressing a press conference in Owerri, the Imo state capital, President General of Olu Owerri, Chief Martin Opara said they have taken Ihedioha's removal from office as the governor as an act of God.

According to Opara, they were no longer mourning Ihedioha’s exit, stressing that whatever God did not sanction never came to fruition.
