Coronavirus patient delivers baby boy at Lagos Isolation Centre. The baby was delivered through a caesarean section at the Gbagada isolation centre on Saturday, May 16.

Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed this on Saturday in a tweet.

“On behalf of COVID-19 Lagos Incident Commander, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, I am excited to announce the successful delivery of a baby boy weighing 2.9kg by health workers;

“The mother of the baby: a 33-year-old COVID-19 patient was successfully operated upon by our management team trained in infection prevention and control as well as management of COVID-19 cases,” Abayomi said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had also reported that in another blow to Nigerians, three more people have lost their lives as a result of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the three people died on Friday, May 15. This brings to 36, the total number of people killed by coronavirus in Lagos so far.

The state has 2,278 confirmed cases of the pandemic with 541 recoveries and 1,701 active cases.

Legit.ng had also reported that barely two weeks after the Covid-19 lockdown was eased in Lagos, Ogun and the Federal Capital Territory, the Lagos state is may be considering reintroducing it again.

Since, and even before, the lockdown was eased, Lagos has not only been recording new cases on a daily basis but also topping the chart.

The compliance with the measures put in place after the lockdown has also not been followed as it should by many of the state's residents.

Considering the level of compliance with the preventive measures so far, the state government is conducting a poll on Twitter asking residents whether another lockdown should be imposed or not.

Though the poll is still ongoing, the current result at the time of this report shows the majority of the respondents, 48.8%, want another lockdown to be imposed while 40.8% do not want another lockdown. Ten percent (10%) of the respondents are neutral.

As the margin of difference between those who want the lockdown to be imposed and those who do not (8%) is below that of those who are neutral (10%), the poll remains tight and shows how divided Lagosians are on the issue.

About 78,726 people have since voted in the poll.
