Eight more COVID-19 patients were on Tuesday, April 14 discharged from the Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba.

The announcement was made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu via social media.

This brings the number of patients successfully managed and discharged from the Lagos state government-owned health facility to 69.

“More great news today from our Mainland Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba. 8 more people; 2 females and 6 males have tested negative and fully recovered from #COVID19. They have been discharged to return to their families.

“This brings the number of patients successfully managed and discharged from our facilities to 69.

“Please, let us continue to adhere to all the safety advice from our health experts,” Governor Sanwo-Olu wrote on his Twitter page.

This news comes barely 24 hours after the governor announced that six patients recovered from the disease on Monday, April 13.

On the same day, President Muhammadu Buhari extended the lockdown in the Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun states for another two weeks.

This was contained in the president's address to the nation on Monday, April 13.

Buhari said: “Having carefully considered the briefings and report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun states as well as the FCT for another 14 days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020.

“I am therefore once again asking you all to work with government in this fight.”

He noted that the decision is a difficult one, but stressed that it is the right decision.

“The repercussions of any premature end to the lockdown action are unimaginable.

“We must not lose the gains achieved thus far. We must not allow a rapid increase in community transmission. We must endure a little longer,” he said.

The federal government had earlier assured Nigerians that more patients of coronavirus would be released once all their results turn out negative.

Minister of health, Dr Osagie Ehanire disclosed this on Tuesday, March 31 while addressing the media in Abuja.

“Treatment normally takes a month or between three to five weeks depending on how your body responds,” the minister said.
