Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the greatest player of all time by fans beating his arch rival Lionel Messi of Barcelona in a World Cup voting style set up to pick the winner.

The Portugal international and Lionel Messi have been into serious rivalry for years in which seven Ballon d'Or awards have been won by these two players.

But the arguments of who is the greatest or best footballer between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is what will continue among football fans all over the world and even pundits.

Some pundits will come out to say Cristiano Ronaldo is the best footballer, while some will say Lionel Messi is the best in heated discussions.

However, Spanish medium Marca set up a voting World Cup style for fans to pick who they think is the best or greatest footballer ever.

The voting pattern starts from the round of 16, where Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo moved from each from the group.

In the round of 16, Lionel Messi beat Ferenc Puskas 78-22, while Cristiano Ronaldo defeated Franz Beckenbauer 83-17 in percentage.

Moving to the quarterfinals, Lionel Messi walked past Alfredro Di Stefano, while Ronaldo defeated mighty Pele of Brazil.

And in the semifinal, Cristiano Ronaldo beat Diego Maradona 59-41, while Lionel Messi defeated Ronaldo De Lima 52-48.

Cristiano Ronaldo however defeated Lionel Messi 54-46 in the final in percentage of votes gotten for him to be declared the greatest footballer.

Meanwhile, it is expected that many football fans will disagree with the result Marca has came u with where Cristiano Ronaldo won it.
