Angel Di Maria was reportedly furious with Real Madrid in 2014 when the Spanish club sent a letter to his national team Argentina not to field him at the World Cup final, SunSport reports.

La Liga giants tried to stop the Argentine from playing in the final of the World Cup that year in a bid to prevent him from aggravating the injury he sustained in the cause of the tournament.

The PSG star revealed what he emotionally went through when he discovered his then club had written a letter to his national team squad not to field him against Germany in the final.

The 32-year-old had suffered a minor injury in their game against Belgium in the quarterfinal which forced him out of the semis against Holland, a game his side won.

He was on the market list for his then club side and the La Liga club were desperate in preventing him from further injuries so as to make good money from selling him.

He recounted he tore up the letter when he found out what his club had done. He was eventually on the bench in the final game as Germany were crowned champions after an extra-time victory.

"I knew (Real Madrid) wanted to sell me, and so the letter arrived. Daniel told me it was from Real Madrid, but I didn't even want to look at it and I tore it up," he said.
