Nigerian Army corporal kills self, 4 colleagues in Borno
- For reasons yet unknown, a Nigerian soldier in Borno on Wednesday, February 26, took his own life
- The strange development was revealed by the Nigerian Army spokesman, Sagir Musa
- The late soldier also killed at least four officers and injured two others after firing shots at them
A Nigerian soldier, a corporal, under the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole, in Borno state has been reported to have killed himself after shooting at some colleagues, killing about four of them and injuring at least two.
Until his death, the late corporal, whose identity was not revealed, was a member of the Army Super Camp 15, in Malam Fatori.
Confirming the sad incident which took place on Wednesday, February 26, Sagir Musa, the acting director of Nigerian Army's public relations, said that the wounded soldiers have been taken to a hospital in Maiduguri, the state capital, PM News reports.
Musa said: “May their gentle souls Rest In Peace. Meanwhile, investigation into the case has since been instituted to determine the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that an officer convicted of killing his colleague on Friday, February 7, by a General Court Martial (GCM) sitting at the Army Headquarters Garrison, Abuja, had disappeared into thin air.
Legit.ng gathered that the GCM, which was presided over by Maj-Gen. GA Umelo, had four other members, as well as a Judge Advocate (JA).
According to the report, the fleeing officer, one Major A. A. Oseni (N12127), was charged alongside Major O. U. Osawe (N/12004), Captain S. E. Amosu, (N/13041), and 2Lieutenant N. B. Dogary (N/16390), for the act.
The offence was punishable under section 105 of the AFA Cap A20 LFN 2004.
While Capt. Amosu was duly “discharged and acquitted” by the GCM, having found him to be innocent of the charge(s), the trio of Majors Oseni and Osawe, as well as 2Lt. Dogary, was convicted and subsequently sentenced to a prison term of 10 years each.

Specifically, the three accused officers were convicted for unlawfully causing the death of 09NA/63/3803 Lance Corporal Collins Benjamin.
In military parlance, the alleged offence is referred to as “forward rolling.” The newspaper added that a senior officer noted that the incident occurred when the convicted officers were being “matched” to the office of the Mess Manager, Capt JE Akwaraonwu.
