Buhari mourns NADECO chieftain Arthur Nwankwo

- Following the death of Arthur Nwankwo, President Buhari has sympathised with the people of Anambra, members of his family and also friends

- Buhari described Nwankwo as a nationalist who will always be remembered by posterity

- 78-year-old Nwankwo passed away at the University Teaching Hospital (UNTH) in Enugu

President Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the death of Dr Arthur Agwuncha Nwankwo, former vice-chairman of National Democratic Coalition.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, Buhari said posterity will always remember the labour and sacrifices of the prolific writer.

The president who commiserated with Nwankwo's family, friends, as well as professional and political associates, called on them to find solace in his contributions to national and global development.

Buhari noted that the departed statesman stood for democracy and development and also worked hard to ensure that the pivotal institutions are strengthened and sustained. He believes all the investments the deceased made in humanity will endure.

Mr president prayed for God almighty to receive the soul of the deceased, and comfort his family.

Nwankwo, aged 78, from Ajali in Orumba North local government area of Anambra passed away on Saturday, February 1. He died at the University Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu.

He is a publisher, award-winning author and chairman, Fourth Dimension Publishing Company. He has authored over 27 books and numerous articles.

The prolific writer was one of the people who fought against military rule and for democracy to return.

The deceased ran for the governorship on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) in 1983.

Nigerians whose lives were touched by Nwankwo during his time on earth have flooded social media with condolence messages.

Deji Toye wrote: "Arthur Nwankwo (1942-2020). I grew up not feeling Nigeria's history was hidden from me, thanks to those books (histories & memoirs by participants in Nigeria's long night) by Spectrum in Ibadan & Dr. Nwankwo's Fourth Dimension in Enugu. RIP, Dr. Nwankwo."

He added that Nwankwo will be greatly missed by Old Aguata Union and ndi Anambra.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported the death of Vice Admiral Patrick Seubo Koshoni (rtd), a former Chief of the Naval Staff.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Aderoju Koshoni, children and several grandchildren. Necessary arrangements for his burial is being concluded in liaison with his family and a firm programme will be communicated in due course.
