The Gombe state government on Thursday, January 23, asked teachers in the state to enrol their children in public schools.

The state government said enrolling the wards of these teachers in government school will enhance academic performance of the state.

Speaking on the enrollment, the executive chairman of the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Babaji Babadidi, at a one-day interactive session organised for headteachers in Gombe Local Government Area when teachers enrol their children in public schools they take their jobs seriously.

Babdidi said the directive is aimed at compelling public school managers and teachers to take their work seriously.

“If our teachers’ children are attending public schools, it will make them serious and dedicated to their work. As such, the much-desired impact the state government is working to achieve will be attained,” Babadidi said.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that UBEC had said that the basic education sub-sector has 277,537 teachers deficit.

The commission stating that there is a deficit of 135,319 teachers at the Early Childhood Care Development Education said the primary and junior secondary school have 139,772 and 2,446 shortage of schools.

Also, the Federal Government had called on state governors including the Federal Capital Territory to ensure the delivery of quality education across schools in the country.
