Justice Abubakar Wali: Supreme Court loses ex-judge in Kano

- The Supreme Court has lost one of its former judges in Kano

Tuesday, January 21, is certainly a day of mourning for officials of the Supreme Court following the death of one of its judges, Justice Abubakar Wali.

According to his family, Justice Wali, who was a pioneer lawyer in the northern region of Nigeria, died in his home in the state after a stretched ailment, Vanguard reports.

The deceased was known as the first judge from the Shariah Court of Appeal to become a judge of the apex court.

So far, nothing has been said by any member of the late judge's family as to what the nature of the sickness that killed Wali really was.

Added to this, though the deceased died as a very aged man, his real age is yet to be confirmed by Legit.ng.

As Muslim, the late famous judge will be buried by his family relatives and friends on Tuesday according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that a group had petitioned President Donald Trump to place visa ban on the seven Supreme Court justices who unanimously declared APC candidate Uzodinma winner of the March 9, 2019 governorship election held in Imo state.

The Imo Diaspora coalition for justice and democracy in a petition asked Trump to place the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Tanko Muhammad, Sylvester Ngwuta, Kudirat Kekekere-Ekun.

Legit.ng gathered that the group alleged that fake results were added to the total accredited voters in the state which was 823,743 out of which only 714,355 voted to now become 928,054 votes.

They, however, asked the Supreme Court to reverse the judgment saying, “Nigeria’s legal system allows for the Supreme Court to reverse itself in certain circumstances, including where the judgement was obtained by fraudulent representation as in the case herein.”
