Okupe advises PDP on seven ways to prepare for 2023 general election

Okupe advises PDP on seven ways to prepare for 2023 general election

- Doyin Okupe, a former aide to ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, wants the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to adopt seven strategies ahead of 2023

- One of such strategies, he says, is for the opposition party to rename itself

- However, some of his followers on social media say renaming the PDP is not necessary

Doyin Okupe, an ex-senior special assistant on public affairs to Goodluck Jonathan, a former president of Nigeria, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the best way to target victory during the 2023 elections.

Okupe is of the belief that if the PDP can implement the seven suggestions, the party would be able to effectively tackle the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the election.

According to Okupe, the seven suggestions include:

  1. Rename
  2. Rebrand
  3. Rebuild
  4. Reform
  5. Realign
  6. Reboot
  7. Recharge

He did not, however, give details on the seven points to the opposition party to study and implement.

But in their reactions, some of his followers on social media opposed the suggestion that the party should be renamed.

Edwin Moore Momife, one of those who commented, said he does not agree with the suggestion that the party should rebrand.

“I totally disagree..rebranding is unserious..it needs to reinvent and return to its core values.it needs to restart from scratch but is it capable of doing it. I think not,” he said.

Another Nigerian, Akinyemi Onigbinde, said it was not necessary to rename the party.

He said: “What the party need is to tidy up its internal contradiction that often leads to self-destruct.

“For now, as it was at the beginning, the party remains an election-winning machinery, lacking in core values coordinate that the public can regard its ideological template and relate with.”

Busuyi Ayowole, in his response, suggested that the PDP should retain its name, especially since it has the support of the enlightened Nigerians from figures from last general elections.

“PDP only needs to understand how to capture the interest of mostly northern poor, less privileged and less educated populace,” he said.

Legit.ng notes that Okupe's suggestion comes almost 24 hours after the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, visited President Muhammadu Buhari and spoke about the need for Nigerians to be patient and allow the government focus on developing the country rather than talk about 2023.

Tinubu described scheming for 2023 presidential election now as restlessness.
