Orange is the New Black star Uzo Aduba joins Lupita Nyong’o in HBO Max series Americanah

- Americanah is adapted from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's novel, a book that explores what it is to lose love and be haunted by it

- The series will be produced by HBO, the same movie company behind popular series like Game of Thrones

Popular Nigerian star, Uzo Aduba, will be featured alongside one of Hollywood’s greatest, Lupita Nyong’o in HBO’s Americanah.

Americanah is a series that is based on Chimamanda Adichie’s bestselling novel which tells the story of Ifemelu and Obinze and how their love for each other struggled against the odds that tore them apart.

In the movie, Lupita will be playing Ifemelu while Momoh will be acting her lover, Obinze. The Nigerian Aduba will act Aunty Uju, Ifemelu’s very trusted aunt who also formed a huge part in the development of the teenage girl into a self-independent woman.

Americanah is a postmodernist story that shows the struggle of fitting into a world that demands so much of us in all areas.

In the book, Ifemelu leaves Nigeria and migrates to the US after the Nigerian education system failed her. Leaving the country is not so easy for her as she had to leave not just life and reinvent a new one, but also the love of her life, Obinze.

That leaving would later come to hurt her and her teenage lover in many ways than one in the future.

It should be noted that Danai Gurira will screen-write the series, where Andrea Calderwood, Didi Rea, and Danielle Del will serve as executive producers for Play B Entertainment.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Gurira is an American actor and playwright who was born on February 14, 1978. She is best known for the popular sci-fi series, The Walking Dead and acting as Okoye in one of the cinema-breaking movies, Black Panther.
