President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday, December 17, that the most remarkable event of his 77th birthday was the opportunity to break the jinx in relation to granting assent to budgets.

The president said it had almost become the norm for budgets to be signed about seven months into the year, adding that there was pessimism that the 2020 appropriation bill could be assented to before the end of December 2019.

“Before now, the minimum time it will take to sign the budget is seven months, but after two months the budget has been signed," Buhari said.

The president also predicted a better future for the country saying Nigeria would soon take its rightful place in the world.

He promised to continue to serve Nigeria with more vigour so as to create a country that its citizens can be proud of.

A statement by Femi Adesina, his spokesperson, said the president made the promise when a coalition, the Buhari/Osinbajo social media supporters and 'The Buharists' visited to congratulate him on his birthday.

Represented at the event by Adesina, the president said: “I appreciate the youths and thank you for remembering me on a special day like this. It is a special day for me as I just finished signing the 2020 appropriation bill into law."
