The Kaduna state government under the stewardship of Nasir El-Rufai has kickstarted a massive infrastructure development project in the state tagged Kaduna Urban Renewal Project.

Governor El-Rufai said the project is part of his administration's focus to accelerate urbanisation of Kaduna City, Daily Trust Reports.

Legit.ng gathers that the Kaduna City project, as explained by Governor El-Rufai, straddles four local government areas and is expected to be completed within 18 months.

The project is, however, generating mixed reactions from the people of the state as many houses, shops, and other buildings have been reportedly demolished to make way for road expansion.

According to Daily Trust, residents of the affected communities whose houses would be affected by the project are not happy.

Legit.ng learns that the residents claimed that about 300 houses would be affected if the government continues with the demolition.

Yusuf Zomo, one of the community leaders, alleged that residents were not issued notices by the authorities before some of the houses were demolished.

However, the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency (KASUPDA) said the affected shop owners were given 21 days’ notice before demolition.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC), Kaduna state chapter, hailed Governor El-Rufai for the project.

IPAC chairman in the state, Alhaji Ibrahim A. Suleiman, said El-Rufai's promise that the project would be completed in 18 months is a welcome development.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Nigeria’s former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, on Wednesday, December 11, paid a visit to Governor El-Rufai in Kaduna.

The former president was a special guest at the extraordinary session of the Kaduna State Executive Council which was chaired by El-Rufai.

Obasanjo commended the Kaduna state governor for putting together a pan-Nigerian cabinet with inter-ethnic inclusion.

He also described Governor El-Rufai as “one of the best persons to work with. He is a near genius.”

"We need a character like this, a man that you know where you stand with him. Any job given to him will be well done,” Obasanjo further eulogised the Kaduna state governor.
