Governor El-Rufai appointed as head of committee to review ownership of DisCos
- The National Economic Council (NEC) has set up an ad-hoc committee to review the ownership of the electricity distribution companies (DisCos)
- Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state and governors representing the six geo-political zones on the board of the NDPHC are also expected to serve on the committee
- The ad-hoc committee is expected to deal with all concerns and establish factually what the true situation is in the electricity distribution companies
Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has been appointed by the National Economic Council (NEC) to head the ad-hoc committee put together by the government to review the ownership of the electricity distribution companies (DisCos).
The Cable reports that the decision was reached at the NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday, November 21, at the presidential villa, Abuja.
Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo state who informed the press about the development said the national council on privatisation and bureau of public procurement would serve on the committee.
He disclosed that governors representing the six geo-political zones on the board of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) are also expected to serve on the committee.
Ihedioha stated that the ad-hoc committee would deal with all concerns and establish factually what the true situation is in the electricity distribution companies.

“Whether it is a joint or partnership ownership structure between the Federal Government and the state governments or whether the Federal Government has divested its shares" NAN reported the governor as saying.
Meanwhile, poor power supply to Nigerians is the current focus of the Senate as the legislators have commenced an investigation into the activities of electricity generation and distribution companies in the country.
The Senate asked its committee in charge of power to commence the probe of these companies to unravel why they have failed the citizens in the area of effective power supply and report back to the red chamber within four weeks.
Senator Chukwuka Utazi, representing Enugu North, had on Tuesday, November 19, sponsored a motion lamenting that, with a population of about 200 million and an annual growth rate of 2.6% per annum, the power deficit in the country should be something to worry about.
